Well-crafted supernatural horror thriller. (by eugenia-pascual) |
It's hard to pinpoint what genre this movie falls into: action, thriller, horror, all of the above, none of the above. The movie features the best of all these genres: a fast pace and dynamic directing, a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere and gritty, no-nonsense characters, peppered with an overwhelming sense of doom and a few genuinely frightening moments. One of the movie's strong points is the fact that the horror scenes are handled in a subtle, understated kind of way, without relying on CGI or fake blood. It also manages to avoid the pitfalls of cheap scares and cheesy dialog so <more> |
Surprisingly TENSE Modern Military Horror (by Rabh17) |
The story is spare and lean without being ludicrous. This is no shambling gun-happy zombie shootfest. This is a War Story in the old style with a dark shadow of Twilight Zone.A Mercenary band is recruited to secure an old outpost in the middle of nowhere in Eastern Europe. Turns out the outpost used to be a Nazi Experiment. An Experiment that either succeeded Horribly well or went Evilly Bad. What follows is sharp tension and despair as the men, lead by DC Pullo from Rome , are picked off by a force of -- you don't even know exactly what they are-- dead or undead or something No Longer <more> |

Straight to video gem (by nwestwood1) |
A work mate lent me this on the off chance and I was pleasantly surprised. I initially thought this would be the usual straight to video crap. However their was a really good story in this film. I like the comparisons of Predator and to some extent The Keep. The premise of indestructible Nazis materialising as & when, created from a long forgotten experiment is a superb idea. Ray Stevenson like Jasan Statham is one of those rare things, a Brit who can carry an action/horror film. He was great in Rome and I have high expectations of him in the upcoming Punisher sequel. Back to the film, <more> |
excellent war/horror /sci-fi flick (by FFAxDAVID) |
Must admit did not have high expectations of this film, but as turns out is very good. The storyline is abit tried and tested, seen a few similar, but where this film is better than others is it doesn't try to be over the top in the horror or gore effects although there are a few gory scenes. Instead of making the scares action packed or very visual,it relies on trying to make the viewer see what the men see and hear and makes you wonder how you would react in their situation-i can only compare it to the feeling of anticipation got when you saw jaws for the 1st time compared to how sequels <more> |
One of the "must see" horror movies of 08 (by zoot_suit44) |
When browsing for a movie to watch at the local video store one night, I came across Outpost. I had noticed that the lead actor was Ray Stevenson, an actor I was very keen to see, as I am looking forward to the upcoming Punisher film, with Stevenson in the lead role. I must say I was incredibly surprised about this film. Being a fan of horror and action films, this movie catered to everything you could possibly look forward to. Set in a war torn Europe in the present day, a group of mercenaries from English to Russian and American soldiers, are hired to investigate an old military bunker and <more> |
A very nice surprise! (by hereugo) |
Outpost was quite a surprise for me, and that means in a good way. I remember hearing about it a while ago but forgot all about it. I had the chance to see the movie recently and I sat down without any expectations at all. I figured it would be your typical B movie with horrible acting, but boy was I wrong. The first 10 minutes of the movie had me convinced that it would be a lot better than I had anticipated.Memories surfaced of Dog Soldiers, mainly because a large portion of the Mercenaries team were of British, Scottish and Irish background. The cast mainly were from UK, which was nice to <more> |
Nice scifi/horror/war/action movie (by charlesdias) |
If you ever played the famous game PC and console Wolfenstein, you will love this movies.I like too much stories mixing horror and ominous Nazi scientific experiments. It's a very interesting and prolific genre. Sometimes you get some very poor stories, but it's not the case of this one. It's simple, it's plain and it's interesting with a nice mix of suspense, horror and action.I like the way the actors played the characters, they are very realistic. Production is also very nice, no CGI at all, but only the good old way of creating weird and dark places. If you want to <more> |
good brit movie !!!! (by igjmann) |
I have watched a lot of these types of movies and let me say that this surprised me a lot. I expected a low quality rubbish movie crap effects and crap storyline. I mean i wasn't all wrong but the plus points definitely outweigh the naff.the story goes as already previous mentioned. merc + team get hired in bar to scope out some remote "outpost" for no "real" reason at first , ah ha i hear u all say that cant be good. To be honest the formula ain't so surprising, but the way it is carried out is typically brit and hence not so bad. As it ends up there are some <more> |
