Raw Deal - One of his best (by rawhide-5) |
This movie gives you everything you want to see in a true action movie from the Hero at his weakest to his strongest. Typically, action movies aren't awarded Oscars because the character development is poor. Most of the characters die before you really get to know them in some of the films we see. In this film, Arnold accomplishes character development as well as action in the same movie. Although, some of the characters are stereotypical gangsters, his interaction with them helps solidify their presence in the movie. The movie does rank in the same category as Commando but if you love <more> |
A quintessential example of what not to do in a film, yet, very entertaining. (by wdaniels) |
Raw Deal represents one of Schwarzenegger's finer works as he encapsulates the essence of a former FED gone town sheriff trying to infiltrate the Chicago mafia while sporting an Austrian accent. Not since Red Sonja and Hercules in New York have I been so awe-inspired by how a film such as this one can be approved for production. Nonetheless, the film proves with each viewing to be of paramount enjoyment as I am entertained by the clique lines, illogical plot, ridiculous action scenes and laughable acting. I am particularly moved by the graveyard scene in which Arnold so eloquently pleads <more> |
Pretty good flick (by nagurski3) |
Lemme just Say Schwarzie has made some BAAAAD movies. Junior, Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Terminator II & III, Jingle All the Way. But there was a time when you knew if Arnold was in it people were gonna die. Lot's of people in lot's of ways. And that was good. If you are watching an Arnold movie expecting to see a brilliantly acted well crafted bit of film you should be hurt worse than the villains in his movies, but if you want to knock back a few and enjoy some death with bad one liners...there is one man who used to be there for you. If you are looking this movie up watch it, you <more> |
Great Film for What It Is (by weezer76) |
This is a great film for what it purports to be. It's an action picture, but it also has curious storyline that keeps one interested in Joey P. Brenner's travails, and it's not all that predictable until the very end. Moreover, it does have a human element at times plus we see a still-massive Arnold sporting a wife-beater . Granted, Arnold doesn't have much depth of dialogue, but it's not Shakespeare. I don't understand why everyone else dislikes "Raw Deal" to such an intense degree, as one must first understand where it is coming from. It is a fun film, one <more> |
Awesome (by FSUKXAZ) |
"You should not drink and bake" - Arnold. Awesome movie quote! This is one of Arnold's first movies and is one of his best. He has to go undercover to bust up a mob family. This movie gave Arnold the awesome kick ass image that he has, and has portrayed in movie after movie since this film. This is the original Arnold after his Conan movies. Robert Davi is awesome playing the bad guy and Arnold's nemesis. This movie has some excellent action and a great plot. Buy it. |
Fine vintage Arnie (by caa821) |
I just happened upon this flick on a weekend evening on one of our local channels. After a few minutes, I realized we'd rented it several years ago, probably 10 years ago, but I must have been preoccupied or tired then, because I just recognized it piecemeal this time.Several of the others here have described in detail the characters, plot, etc., and I agree it's one of Arnie's films with superior acting all around, and also does seem a bit lower-budgeted than his others in this genre.**Possible spoiler although hard to "spoil" one of Arnie's >**Humorous <more> |
Raw Deal? Don't mess with Schwarzenegger..!! (by smiley-32) |
I got this on video.. Looks like it's totally uncut. But Schwarzenegger is at his best, since playing The Terminator.. In this film, he's brought down to earth as this former FBI agent turned Sheriff in a small North Carolina town..When an old friend's son of his get shot.. Schwarzenegger's character Kaminski decides to take the job in revenge of his friend's son. This leads him into the underworld of the crime bosses who are at each other's throat. On one side, you got Luigi Patrovita played by the late Sam Wanamaker.. On the other, you've got Laminski played by <more> |
Worth the watch for the lines (by harlinseritt) |
This is a typical Ahnold picture of the 80's. While it has serious plot holes, it is thoroughly enjoyable if you are a fan of Arnold the actor. Also, some of his best one-liners are here and if for nothing else, the movie is worth the watch because of them.Arnold is a sheriff of a small town. Evidently at one time or other in the past he was an FBI/CIA agent. For some reason unknown to the viewer it's never mentioned exactly why he had to go 'underground.' It's apparent his wife was not happy with him being just a sheriff -- she has become an alcoholic and is abusive <more> |
One to watch as a comedy rather than an action movie (by Corky1984) |
Raw Deal would have been utter rubbish had Arnie not made an appearance as the lead. The plot is very simple and best ignored. Raw Deal is really a selection of action comedy sketches in which Arnie kills plenty of people before making some quips! The end is superb and very very funny. Arnie finds an open-top car and starts playin Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones on the tape player at full blast. This is to announce his arrival at a quarry where he drives around shooting everyone and anyone, often from very long range, before heading off to the badguys HQ at a nightclub. Of course he then <more> |
